The Weirzin
Bathroom: 1956
Various
do-it-yourself alternatives to ceramic tile emerged
over the years, among them adhesive-backed asphalt
tile and, here, enameled, zinc-coated steel
appliqués — a questionable idea (if the “tiles” eventually
rusted through the paint) that was put out of its
misery in the late 1950s by the advent of Styrene
(plastic) faux tile. This on-the-grid rendering of a
remodeled bathroom under a stairway (note the early
use of vertical blinds) is by the versatile
architectural illustrator Marvin Culbreth. |
